Volume Loss and Skin Laxity

Signs of volume loss can begin in our 30’s when our face begins to lose that youthful fullness. Eyes begin to look tired and sunken, hollowness or flattening can be noted in the cheek area, and lines around the nose and mouth can deepen. Gravity appears to be “pulling” the face downwards contributing to “jowls” in the jawline area. These changes are the result of a loss of support beneath the skin including elastin, collagen and fat. Although a natural part of the aging process, volume loss can be accelerated by sun exposure, stress and lifestyle habits such as smoking.
