Brown Spots and Melasma

Brown spots are a common concern as skin ages and are often the result of sun exposure.

Melasma is a pigment disorder causing brown patches to appear on the face. It is thought to have a hormonal component, often appearing during pregnancy (“mask of pregnancy”) or in the perimenopausal period. Sun exposure causes melasma to be more pronounced. Melasma sometimes disappears spontaneously but often requires long term management.
